At Invitro Safe, we use laboratory-cultured animal and human cells to assist in the research and development of leading-edge medications
Our Medical Director
Invitro Safe was created by Michael P. Vaughn PhD. MD. as a Pharmaceutical Industry Resource designed to evaluate the invitro effects of "new" drugs on the viability and growth of cultured cells. Invitro information may help investigators minimize or avoid unnecessary animal injuries or deaths due to anticipated drug toxicities or excessive medication dosing.
Our Services
We offer individualized, professional consultative assistance with selecting the cell types that would best model the invivo effects of a new medication and provide technical input on optimizing invitro experimental designs.
Cell Culture Selection Considerations
- 1) For reproducibility, cells chosen for study should come from a reputable source (ATCC) and be mycoplasma-free
- 2) If live animal testing is to be considered, 1 or more type of the cell(s) studied should be of the same animal origin.
- 3) If the drug-effect is mediated via a specific ligand-receptor interaction, the cell type(s) studied should be confirmed to express a functional receptor.
- 4) To limit the effect of drug-metabolites on the targeted cells, selecting cells with a low capacity for drug metabolism should be a considered factor.
- 5) hTERT immortalized human cell lines are most likely to closely mirror a drug's impact on normal invivo cells. (12 different tissue types are available from ATCC),
