In 1980, after 3 years of study, Michael P. Vaughn was awarded a B.S. from St. Bonaventure University with a major in Microbiology. He then received an NIH Education Training Grant that sponsored his PhD training in Microbiology and Immunology at the Medical College of Virginia / VCU. While in Graduate School, he developed an expertise in creating monoclonal antibodies. Using a monoclonal antibody for his PhD project, he identified and biochemically characterized a unique cell surface receptor for IgG present on multiple types of white blood cells. After completing his PhD in 1983, he was accepted into Medical School, also at MCV, and graduated with an M.D. degree in 1987. Dr. Vaughn accepted a commission as a Major in the USAF and received 3 years of training in Internal Medicine in San Antonio Texas. In 1990, he was assigned as the Chief of Medicine Services at Hill Airforce Base Hospital in Ogden Utah but after 3 years, returned to San Antonio for Medical Fellowship training. In 1995, after becoming Board Certified in Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, he became an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and was the part-time director of their Allergy clinic (1995-2000). Dr. Vaughn, is also Board-certified in Emergency Medicine and practiced full-time in the Baptist Hospital ERs from 1995-2004. In 2005, he transitioned into a full-time Medical Practice in the field of Allergy and Immunology. During his varied medical career choices, Dr. Vaughn has maintained his research interests working in his own laboratory and established Invitro Safe in 2023
